Chinese New Year Celebration at Market Mall and Lawson Heights Mall

On February 4, 2017, the Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) and the Saskatchewan Chinese Dance School (SCDS) were invited to participate in the celebration of Chinese New Year organized by Market Mall and Lawson Heights Mall in Saskatoon.

On February 4, 2017, the Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of Saskatchewan (U of S) and the Saskatchewan Chinese Dance School (SCDS) were invited to participate in the celebration of Chinese New Year organized by Market Mall and Lawson Heights Mall in Saskatoon.

The celebration at Market Mall started around 12:00 noon with the dragon dance and traditional Chinese folk dance brought about by the SCDS. Then the U of S CI performed panda dance, lion dance and pop dance. Hundreds of shoppers gathered to watch the exciting Chinese art performances.

After the performance, the dragon, the lions and the pandas paraded along the corridor of the mall. The parade was frequently stopped by the shoppers to take pictures. Some shoppers even followed the dragon, the lions and the pandas all through the parade.

Immediately after the parade at the Market Mall, all the performers drove to the Lawson Heights Mall to perform there. At the Lawson Heights Mall, shoppers already lined up for the performance.  They also enjoyed the performance a great deal and had a wonderful time.

The Chinese New Year celebration performance at the Market Mall and the Lawson Heights Mall brought great surprise and happiness to the shoppers. Many of them expressed their appreciation and extended their heart-felt thanks to the performers.
