On February 10, 2017, Lanzhou University Students’ Art Troupe Canada Tour and Celebration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary of Confederation was successfully held at Lakeview Church, Saskatoon. This event was supported by the Confucius Institute Headquarters, co-organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan, Federation of Saskatoon Chinese Canadian Organizations (FSCCO) and Saskatoon Chinese Artists & Musicians Alliance (SCAMA), and sponsored by Happy Life Wealth Management Inc., Ag-Vision Seeds Ltd. and Dakota Dunes Casino.
Dr. Patti McDougall, Vice-Provost of the U of S, made the opening remarks on behalf of all the organizing institutions, followed by Ms. Cao Hong, Vice-President of Lanzhou University, Mr. Yin Zhisong, First Secretary of Education Affairs Office of Chinese Embassy in Ottawa, Ms. Bev Dubois, Councilor of the City Council of Saskatoon, Mr. Kehan Fu, President of USSU, and Ms. Chen Qin, General Manager of Happy Life Wealth Management Inc.
The performances brought about by Lanzhou University Students’ Art Troupe covered a wide variety of Chinese art forms, including folk dances, folk songs, Chinese local operas, martial arts, calligraphy and Chinese folk music.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan also brought about four performances for the audience, folk dance “Cai Wei”, children’s choir “It’s a Small World”, lion dance “Dance with the Lions”, and Hulusi duet “The Vow”.
More than 700 audience watched the wonderful performances and all of them felt greatly entertained and appreciated the artists’ work very much. Many of them said that this was one of the best performances they had witnessed in Saskatoon.
