2017 U of S CI Volunteer Teacher Training

On January 22, 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan invited Dr. Mianmian Xie to hold a teacher training program for all the staff members of the U of S CI.

On January 22, 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan invited Dr. Mianmian Xie to hold a teacher training program for all the staff members of the U of S CI.

Dr. Mianmian Xie is a Chinese teacher at the Ottewell Junior High School in Edmonton. She is also the Cultural Coordinator of the Confucius Institute in Edmonton and Chair of Alberta Chinese Teachers’ Association. Through more than 30 years of Chinese language teaching, Dr. Xie has accumulated a lot of experiences and special teaching methods in teaching Chinese language to Canadian elementary and high-school students.

Throughout this training program, Dr. Xie exchanged her experiences in overseas Chinese language teaching with the U of S CI volunteer teachers, covering a large variety of areas such as passion for teaching, educational ecology, cultural sensitivity, class management, specific teaching methods, etc. She illustrated her points with authentic teaching cases, which had left vivid and deep impression on all the audience. At the end of the training program, Dr. Xie answered the questions raised by the audience. All the audience said that they had learned a lot from this program and they would apply what they had learned from the program to their own teaching, and expressed their wishes to have more of such beneficial training.
