Dr. Karen Chad Won “Individual Performance Excellence Award”

December 8 to 11, 2019, the “2019 International Chinese Language Education Conference” was held in Changsha, Hunan Province, China. The delegation of the Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan for the conference was led by Dr. Karen Chad, the Vice-President Research and the Chairperson of the Board of the USask CI. Members of the delegation include Dr. Darcy Marciniuk, the Associate Vice-President Research, Dr. Li Zong, the China Advisor and Co-Director of the USask CI, and Dr. Ning Liu, the Co-Director of the USask CI.

At the conference, Dr. Karen Chad was awarded the “2019 Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award” in recognition of her great leadership and contribution to the development of the USask CI.

During the conference, the USask delegation held the 2019 USask CI Board Meeting in Changsha, together with the delegation from the USask flagship partner, Beijing Institute of Technology. The Board Meeting reviewed the “2019 USask CI Annual Report”, “2019 USask CI Financial Statement”, “2020 USask CI Work Plan”, and “2020 USask CI Budget Plan”.

On his way back, Dr. Darcy Marciniuk, on behalf of the USask, signed the MOU for research collaboration between the USask College of Dentistry and the School of Stomatology, Pekin University in Beijing.

In Beijing, Dr. Darcy Marciniuk also joined in the meeting between the USask College of Education and the School of Foreign Language, Beijing Institute of Technology. At the meeting, the two parties talked about the possibility of joint programs for undergraduate education and expressed their respective willingness to promote the programs in the coming year.
