USask CI Participated in the 2022 FMG Dragon Boat Festival and Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest

The Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan (USask CI) Lion Dance Team and Chinese Dance Team had a busy weekend. They participated the 2022 FMG Dragon Boat Festival and the Culture of China-Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest Party on July 23rd, 2022.

FMG Dragon Boat Festival is in its 25th year in Saskatoon and is the area’s largest corporate team building event with annual charitable contributions.  This year the FMG Dragon Boat Festival works with Make-A-Wish Canada together to raise money for sick children and families in need.

USask CI Lion Dance Team was invited by the FMG Dragon Boat Festival Organizing Committee to perform at the Opening Ceremony, cheer up the racing teams, and entertain audiences throughout the day.

On the 23rd evening, the USask CI volunteers performed at the Culture of China-2022 Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest Party. The event was co-organized by the Calgary and Saskatoon Chinese Freemasons & Dart Coon Club, and the Chinese Benevolent Association of Saskatchewan, sponsored by Happy Life Wealth Management. Nearly 700 audiences attended the event at the Lakeview Church.

17 singers from Saskatoon and Calgary competed at the contest.  The volunteer performers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon Spring Choir, Chinese Dance School of Saskatchewan, and Hard to Meet Band also entertained the audiences with great singing and dancing performances.  Ms. Yuzhou (Rainie) Xiang won the title of 2022 Water Cube Cup Chinese Songs Contest Calgary and Saskatoon Region.

The CI Lion Dance Team performed the opening lion dance and the CI Chinese Dance Team performed Chinese dance “Floating Clouds” and “Spring Breeze”.
