On June 2, 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan went to the Confucius Institute in Edmonton for exchange and study.
In the early morning, the U of S CI went to Ottewell High School in Edmonton to observe classes taught by a famous Chinese teacher Dr. Mianmian Xie. Through more than 10 years of teaching experiences, Dr. Xie has formed her own special teaching method. She teaches Chinese language with the help of sign language, songs, martial arts and dances. Her class is never boring with a combination of various class activities. All the students were actively involved in all the class activities. The U of S CI volunteer teachers see with their own eyes how to teach language in a joyful way.
In the afternoon, the U of S CI went to the CI in Edmonton. They first visited the Edmonton CI library and then had a through discussion with Edmonton CI about teaching methods, administrative work and other affairs of the CIs. After that, the Edmonton CI volunteer teachers taught the volunteer teachers from the U of S CI how to make Chinese dough figurines.
The visit to the CI in Edmonton is an invaluable experience for the staff members of the U of S CI and will be of great help in improving the administrative and teaching quality of the U of S CI.
