April 21st, 2024 - The Confucius Institute at the University of Saskatchewan, in collaboration with Bright Horizons Chinese School, successfully marked the opening ceremony of International Chinese Language Day.

The event commenced with opening remarks from Ms. Yanhong Liu, the Chinese Co-director of USask CI, and Ms. Fen Wang, Principal of Bright Horizons Chinese School, who also had the honor of presenting certificates to the talented students recognized for their achievements.

Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to participate in a guided tour of the International Chinese Language Day Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition. Themed "Echoes in Chinese Wisdom," the month-long exhibition, hosted at USask CI featured an impressive array of calligraphy and painting pieces from both CI teachers and students, as well as participants from Bright Horizons Chinese School.

With a blend of tradition and modernity, the exhibition unfolded a narrative that traversed through time, illustrating the evolution of Chinese characters. The diverse presentation formats, ranging from paper to fan surfaces and mirrors, served as a testament to the adaptability and enduring appeal of Chinese calligraphy.

In addition to the exhibition, USask CI has planned an exciting lineup of traditional Chinese cultural activities throughout the month. From lectures on Guzheng performances and traditional Chinese medicine to calligraphy workshops and tai chi experience classes, attendees can look forward to engaging with various facets of Chinese heritage and artistry.
