“Year of the Dragon” Chinese Cultural Workshops in Saskatoon Public Schools

USask CI teachers spread the festive spirit of Lunar New Year across Saskatoon public schools.

In February, the teachers from the University of Saskatchewan Confucius Institute (USask CI) spread the festive spirit of Chinese New Year across Saskatoon public schools through interactive workshops. The spirited celebrations included crafting handmade dragons and captivating lion and panda dance displays, warmly embraced by both students and teachers.

Greystone Heights School

Between February 5 and February 16, 2024, teachers from USask CI were honored with invitations to conduct cultural classes centered around the Year of the Dragon at Brunskill School, Greystone Heights School, and Lawson Heights School. The sessions fostered a positive and engaging learning atmosphere, with CI teachers actively encouraging student participation through interactive Chinese craft sessions. Students eagerly shared their insights into Chinese New Year customs, actively participating in activities like coloring and papercutting.

The highlight of these occasions was the mesmerizing lion and panda dance performances. The elaborate costumes, intricate movements, and vibrant music left a lasting impression on both students and teachers present, providing them with a firsthand experience of the dynamic enthusiasm inherent in Chinese performing arts.
